This is the continuation of the HSMAU101 where the student will delve deeper into the philospohy of the Mandukya Upanishad. The students will learn Shlokas 2 to 5 and Sant Vanis that relate to these Shlokas.

  • To sing Shloka 2 in Raga Vardhini and Ramana Maharishi’s verse in the same Raga
  • To understand how a verse by Akka Mahadevi reflects Shloka 2 
  • To sing Akka Mahadevi’s verse in Raga Vardhini
  • To express Akka Mahadevi’s  poetry in movement/painting/sketching/writing
  • To understand the meaning of Shloka 3
  • To sing Shloka 3 in Raga Chhayanat
  • To create a labelled sketch of Vaishvanara
  • To understand how a verse by Lal Ded connects with Shloka 3
  • To sing the verse in Raga Chhayanat  and understand its meaning
  • To understand how a verse by Kabir connects with Shloka 3

  • The student will be able to illustrate the overall import of the Shlokas and Sant Vanis in this course through drawing/ movement/ discussion.
  • The student will be able to understand the outline of  the Raga in which these Shlokas and Sant Vanis are sung. 
  • The student will be able to recognize how Dhrupad music is similar/ different from other genres of Hindustani Classical music.
  • The student will be able to write or narrate a more detailed understanding of each Shloka/Sant Vani after reading or listening to the recommended video clips/ commentaries.
